I love chips. I mean I LOVE them. If I was 5 again, and someone asked me "why don't you marry them?" well, I probably would. Pringles are amazing. And they come with a pretty amazing marketing campaign don't they? "Once you pop, you can’t stop." #brutalhonesty. No false claims here! I am not sure why, but I've always felt like at lunch time, if I'm eating a sandwich, I must have chips! Doesn't it seem that most dining establishments feel the same way? If you get a combo at Subway or Jimmy Johns, you get...chips! Sure at some restaurants you can choose a fruit cup and if you have that kind of willpower you should consider bottling it and selling it - you'd make a killing! Now, I love my Pringles, but I do not discriminate. I'm game for some Doritos, Tostidos, Ruffles, Lays Kettle Cooked chips, Sun Chips, Ms. Vicki's...need I go on? I love mostly all flavors of chips too! BBQ, Salt n Vinegar, Sour Cream and Onion, Cheddar, French Onion, and the list goes on! I'm about as coocoo for potato chips as the Coocoo bird is for Cocoa Puffs! The problem is - and we all know it...
potato chips have absolutely ZERO nutrional value. ZILCH. Yes, there are lots of brands out there now trying to recreate a "healthy" chip to appeal to the chip freaks such as myself. They are more expensive and I personally feel you get less in each bag. But do not be deceived. According to the Wall Street Journal: "Making snacks with natural ingredients doesn't necessarily make them healthy, nutritionists and industry critics caution, even if they are potentially less bad. That includes potato chips." There is a lot of research out there about these "healthy" chips so I encourage you to do your homework. If it looks like a potato chip and smells like a potato chip, it's a potato chip -- with all of its pitfalls to your good health -- regardless of whether the label now calls it "natural."
Since starting the 21 day fix, I'm not really eating sandwiches so I'm finding I'm not really wanting to reach for chips anyway. However, today I had ham & turkey on a whole wheat pita with avocado and lettuce. Tpically, I would throw some chips on the side of my plate. So I don't feel totally unhealthy, I may also toss some baby carrots on my plate if I have some in the veggie drawer! Today I uncovered a new side for my sandwiches! Cut up some cucumber slices and sweet cherub tomatoes and drizzle them with a few tesapoons of the 21 day fix Dijon Vinaigrette dressing! #Sensational and oh so satisfying! I'm not saying I will never eat chips again. What I am saying is that I'm learning to be aware of my "trigger" foods. Foods that have zero nutritional value and that when I eat them, I just can't seem to control myself. And chips - in all their salty and crunchy gloriousness - are on this list.
Are you addicted to chips too? What are some of your trigger foods?
