Here are some things I’ve been hearing in my head the last few years. Can you relate to any of these disastrous lies:
“It’s too late” “It’s too hard” “It’s going to take too long”
“You don’t have that kind of discipline” “You won’t succeed anyways, why try?”
“You always give up” “You never stick to anything”
Well you know what lies? “Blah-blah-blah, me-me-blah! Blah-blah, blah-blah, me-me-me!” It's time I tell you how I really feel...
“No, it’s never too late”
“It will take hard work, but staying the same is harder”
“Yes it IS going to take time. But even if it takes a year, a year from now I will look back and think “Wow! I did that! Look how far I’ve come!”
“It’s about progress, not perfection.”
“I will focus on how far I’ve come instead of how far I have left to go!”
“I will not give up on myself!”
“Watch me!!!”
I really cannot pinpoint EXACLTY what clicked in my head in the last few weeks. I can only tell you that I just got fed up…with being lazy. Yes, I said the “L” word because let’s call it what it is people! When I don’t take care of myself I am just being lazy! When I choose to swing through the CFA drive thru because I don’t want to take the time to make a home cooked meal - I am being lazy. When I don’t put my sneakers on and take the dog for a walk. When I don’t get my haircut for an entire year. When I don’t hang up my clothes after work – lazy. Let’s face it, it’s easy to be lazy. It takes less time to be lazy. Eating healthy and exercising takes effort. A lot of effort, especially at first. And even more so if you feel like you don’t know what you’re doing. And we don’t always see the benefits overnight. It may takes a few months before we really start seeing the difference in how we look and feel. Just as unhealthy habits eventually catch up with us though, healthy habits will too!

One of my favorite new quotes I came across, and I’ve mentioned it before is...
For example, instead of focusing on how I can’t (or shouldn’t) turn to the snack shack (AKA: the pantry) when I’m bored, I focus on something I should be doing instead. There are a million things to do around the house all the time right? So I pick something and do it. Even if it’s something like organizing a dresser drawer. I have 9 very organized dresser drawers right now! I’ve also been saying for about 6 months that I need to go through my closet and get rid of the stuff I’m not wearing anymore. So I did.
Now that we have our attitudes in check, what kinds of things motivate you? In other words, how do you get yourself pumped up? Here are my top 3:
1. MUSIC! I cannot – CANNOT – workout without it. I don’t like to take walks without music or ride my bike without music or even drive without music. Why do you think the NBA teams warm up with music? Because it gets their blood pumping! If music doesn’t get you pumped up, you may want to check your pulse to make sure you are alive! Here are some of my top workout songs on my playlist right now…
Turn Down for What by DJ Snake & Lil Jon
Hey Ya! by Outkast
Let’s Get it Started by Black Eyed Peas
Play Hard by David Guetta
Let’s Go by Calvin Harris
More by Usher
Suddenly I See – KT Tunstall
Suavemente by Elvis Crespo
2. INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES! These really do work! There really is something to be said for flooding your mind with positive messages EVERY – SINGLE – DAY! I mean it. Post them in your office, on your fridge, in your pantry, in your closet, on your mirror, stash them in your purse, in your car, and in your lunch bag! I even filled my 2nd monitor’s desktop at work with some of my favorite motivational images! See…

3. The SUCCESS of another’s journey! Do not underestimate the power and influence of someone else’s success. Don’t fall into the comparison trap. The “Oh, I could never do what she did” thinking does nothing except keep your feet planted in that comfort zone I talked about earlier. You don’t have to do exactly what she or he did, but let it spark an energy inside you! You have your own dreams and goals – go achieve them! And remember that their journey was probably a struggle at first too. Congratulate them for their hard work and let it motivate you to move toward your own goals. You know the saying “all good things come to those who wait?” That’s bull honkey! All good things come to those who work their tooshies off! Now, what do you say? Go find your inner nemo, mmm-k??!!
